Pupil Premium Statement

The Government believes that the Pupil Premium, which is additional to main school funding, is the best way to address the current inequalities by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage pupils reaches the pupils who need it most.

The DfE has given schools the freedom to use the Pupil Premium as they see fit:

“It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.”

The Pupil Premium funding settlement received by Holy Rosary School is calculated based on the number of children on roll who:

  • are known to have been eligible for free school meals at any time within the last six years
  • are Looked After children
  • are the children of armed service personnel
  • are adopted from care (funding allocated from April 2014)

Principles

At Holy Rosary School we aim to ensure that children experience quality first teaching, meeting the needs of each individual child. We aim to ensure that every child reaches or exceeds age-related expectations in reading, writing and mathematics, making at least two levels of progress from the end of Key Stage 1 to the end of Key Stage 2. In addition, no child is disadvantaged due to inability to pay for school trips, residential visits, music tuition or other extra-curricular activities.

We ensure that teaching and learning opportunities meet the needs of all our pupils. We ensure that appropriate provision is made for pupils who belong to vulnerable groups, this includes ensuring that the needs of disadvantaged pupils are adequately assessed and addressed. In making provision for disadvantaged pupils, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be disadvantaged. We also recognise that not all pupils who are disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals. We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being disadvantaged. Pupil premium funding will be allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority classes, groups or individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving free school meals will be in receipt of pupil premium interventions at one time.
